Kano Police Arrest 873 Suspects Amid Curfew and Protests

The Kano State Police Command has reported the arrest of 873 individuals who allegedly exploited the recent 10-day nationwide protests to engage in various criminal activities and violate the state-imposed curfew.

Speaking to the press in Kano on Monday, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo, detailed the crimes committed by the suspects, which include armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, vandalism, and human trafficking.

CP Dogo showcased the recovered items, which included firearms, cash, bags of Indian hemp, and stolen vehicles, as evidence of the criminal activities.

Additionally, CP Dogo revealed that 76 individuals arrested for raising Russian flags during the protests have been transferred to the Police Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.

Providing a detailed breakdown, the CP noted that 600 suspects were detained for various offenses, including criminal conspiracy, incitement, rioting, theft, mischief, and arson. Furthermore, 150 individuals were apprehended for breaching the curfew imposed by the Kano State Government during the protests.

In a related development, six suspects accused of orchestrating the destruction, arson, and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) have been arrested and are currently under investigation.

The police also arrested 76 individuals, including a foreign national, for flying Russian flags. These suspects have been transferred to Abuja for a thorough investigation on charges of sedition.

“Forty-one suspects were apprehended for other serious crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and car theft. Two AK-47 rifles were among the items recovered,” CP Dogo stated.

The Kano Police Commissioner added that a significant amount of stolen property, looted from locations such as Audu Bako Secretariat, NCC Office, High Court Complexes, Kano Printing Press, and various supermarkets, has been recovered.
