In a recent incident, the Managing Director and seven employees of an oil company in Lagos were abducted while traveling by boat to the upscale Lekki area. Just two days after the kidnapping, concerned family members gathered at the company’s premises in Apapa, demanding information about the fate of their loved ones.
According to eyewitnesses, the oil workers were forcibly transferred from their boat to another vessel, which sailed away while their original boat was found drifting in a different location. Thankfully, the victims’ boat remained intact, and their personal belongings were undisturbed.
Family members, visibly distressed, attempted to meet with company authorities but were unsuccessful. However, an unnamed high-ranking official intervened and requested time to take decisive action and ensure the safe recovery of the victims, preventing a potential altercation at the company’s premises.
While the kidnappers have not yet contacted the victims’ families, sources suggest that they are engaged in discreet negotiations with the oil company, aiming to extort a substantial ransom.
An anonymous source revealed that the oil company has advised the victims’ families not to take any actions that could jeopardize ongoing negotiations, emphasizing the need to safeguard the lives of the kidnapped individuals.
The Lagos State Police Command, represented by spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, affirmed that the investigation into the abduction is still underway. Due to the sensitive nature of the incident involving human lives, Hundeyin refrained from disclosing further details of the police’s efforts to rescue the victims in order to avoid compromising their safety.
