The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Kogi State branch has officially removed its suspended Chairman, Dr. Baoku Olusola, along with three other executive members, from office. The decision was confirmed during the 2024 NMA Kogi Annual General Meeting held in Lokoja, the state capital, where members adopted a report citing gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Dr. Austin Ojotule, Chairman of the Kogi State NMA Disciplinary Committee, presented the report, stating, “The State Disciplinary Committee observed that the suspended chairman, treasurer, director of social welfare, and financial secretary failed to defend themselves despite being given ample opportunity. Their refusal is considered a gross abuse of the privilege accorded to them and an implicit admission of guilt regarding the allegations against them.”
The report also noted that Dr. Olusola had not convened a State Executive Committee meeting for the past six months, which constitutes a violation of the association’s bylaws.
Furthermore, Dr. Olusola was criticized for bypassing the NMA’s internal crisis resolution mechanisms by unilaterally petitioning members of the association, including the Chief Medical Director and other senior officials of the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja, to law enforcement agencies.
