The Plateau State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas.
The decision was announced late Sunday night in a press statement by Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
The curfew was enforced following incidents where criminals, armed with daggers, machetes, and other weapons, broke into shops and restaurants on Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North.
“The imposition of this curfew is in the best interest of all citizens,” the statement read, emphasizing that it aims to prevent the situation from worsening.
Governor Mutfwang issued a stern warning to individuals planning further violence, urging them to desist immediately or face severe legal consequences.
The state had experienced four days of peaceful #EndBadGovernance protests before the recent outbreak of looting and vandalism.
At the onset of the protests, about four states in northern Nigeria imposed curfews following massive looting, vandalism, and arson.
