Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, represented by the APC Professionals (APC-P), have criticized Murtala Ajaka, the gubernatorial candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, over his recent call for President Bola Tinubu to dismiss some of his aides.
Ajaka had urged Tinubu to remove his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, along with certain ministers, alleging that Onanuga’s social media statements were causing problems for the President.
In response to Ajaka’s statement, the APC-P released a statement on Sunday, with Alhaji Adekunle Lawal as its Chief Convener, labeling Ajaka as selfish and driven by personal ambition.
The APC group questioned Ajaka’s motives, suggesting that his recent actions might indicate a desire to return to the APC and potentially secure key positions within the party. They accused Ajaka of pursuing ministerial appointments and speculated that his call for the dismissal of ministers and Onanuga was a strategic move to position himself for a role as Minister of Information or to replace Onanuga as Special Adviser on Information.
The group emphasized that the APC does not operate as a party with a policy of free entry and exit, warning Ajaka that his return, if he were to seek it, would not be met with a warm reception due to his previous defection to the SDP.
They suggested that Ajaka should be aware of the consequences of rebelling against the party and leaving for another political platform.
