NYSC denies involvement in the death of Ogun Poly student

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Ogun State has distanced itself from the tragic incident that led to the death of Pelumi David Idowu, a student of Gateway ICT Polytechnic.

The NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Nasamu, stated that the corps had no knowledge of the hit-and-run driver responsible for the accident that claimed the lives of Idowu and Hassan Ariyo, a bike man.

Following the incident, students in Ogun State protested the death of Idowu and accused the NYSC of attempting to cover up the driver’s identity.

The students alleged that the driver, identified as Ojo Aina, an NYSC worker, ran into the orientation camp to avoid being held accountable. However, Nasamu refuted these claims, describing them as fictional and baseless.

Nasamu expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased victims and the Student Union Government of the polytechnic.

She clarified that the NYSC had been cleared of any wrongdoing in the matter following thorough investigations by the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force in Ogun State.

Furthermore, Nasamu mentioned that the management of Gateway Polytechnic, including the Rector and the Students Union President, had visited her office to apologize for the false accusations against the NYSC.

The Student Union President acknowledged the mistake and committed to issuing a public statement to correct the misinformation circulating in the media.

She explained that Ojo Aina, the individual falsely accused by the students, was an NYSC employee who had only driven his car to the gate of the camp to assist following the accident.

Nasamu emphasized that the NYSC remains committed to the pursuit of justice and expressed gratitude for the support received from the polytechnic’s management in addressing the situation.
