Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced Senator James Donald “J.D.” Vance as his choice for Vice President for the 2024 Republican ticket.
Trump made this announcement on the opening day of the Republican National Convention.
“After lengthy deliberation and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the great state of Ohio,” Trump stated in a post on his Truth Social network.
Vance, 39, gained national recognition with his 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.” Elected to the Senate in 2022, he has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda, particularly on trade, foreign policy, and immigration.
Vance has been representing Ohio in the Senate since 2023.
