The FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has reported the arrest of a female individual, Precious Yusuf, for attempting to smuggle drugs into the medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.
According to the Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samson Duza, the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 9, when Yusuf disguised herself as a visitor to an inmate at the custodial center. During a routine search by officers, suspected Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs hidden in food packs within a carton were discovered.
Yusuf admitted to being sent to deliver the illicit substances to an inmate within the custodial center. The Controller of the FCT Command, Ibrahim Usman, directed that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and potential prosecution. Usman warned against the smuggling of prohibited substances into custodial centers under the guise of visits, emphasizing the vigilance of officers in thwarting such attempts.
He urged the public to support the NCoS in its efforts to maintain a secure and reformatory environment, ensuring the safe custody of legally detained individuals.
