NNPCL plans to launch 100 more CNG stations across Nigeria

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced plans to establish an additional 100 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations across Nigeria within the next twelve months.

This initiative was revealed by Huub Stokman, the Managing Director of NNPC Retail Limited, during the inauguration of 11 CNG stations in Abuja and Lagos.

Stokman highlighted the cost benefits of CNG, stating that it will be approximately 40 percent cheaper than Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) in Nigeria. He also emphasized the potential for CNG to become a significant part of the country’s energy mix with continued investments.

The announcement follows the inauguration of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August 2023. The initiative was introduced to help mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal that took place in June of the same year.

The expansion of CNG infrastructure in Nigeria is a positive development that not only offers cost savings to consumers but also aligns with efforts to promote cleaner energy alternatives.
