A High Court in Kano State has postponed the hearing of an application related to the ongoing Kano Emirship dispute until July 4.
The applicants, including the Attorney-General of Kano State and the Kano State House of Assembly, aim to prevent the dethroned emirs of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Gaya, and Karaye from continuing to present themselves as traditional rulers.
The respondents, among them Aminu Ado-Bayero and four other dethroned emirs, have submitted their responses to the application.
The applicants’ counsel informed the court that they received five documents from the first respondent on July 1 at 7:00 pm and have since filed their replies. They requested a 30-minute recess to serve the respondent.
Counsel for Bayero opposed the 30-minute recess, seeking an adjournment to allow more time to respond to the applications.
Presiding Judge Justice Amina Adamu adjourned the case to give the respondents adequate time to respond to the applications.
The hearing is now set for July 4.
