Nigerian Air Force Denies Helicopter Crash in Kaduna

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dismissed reports of a helicopter crash in Kaduna, clarifying that the incident involved an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) rather than a manned helicopter.

In a statement, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for NAF, confirmed that a UAV encountered a mishap shortly after takeoff near Rumji village, approximately fifteen kilometers from its base. He emphasized that, as it was an unmanned vehicle, there were no casualties.

The statement noted that a preliminary investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident. Gabkwet urged media outlets to avoid spreading unverified information, stressing the importance of developmental journalism, balanced reporting, and fairness. He also advised journalists to seek confirmation from authorized military sources before publishing reports.

Earlier, an eyewitness report had claimed that a NAF helicopter crashed in the early hours of Monday in Taimi village, near Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
