MHWUN Calls for Greater Inclusion of Labor Leaders in Governance

Dr. Kabiru Minjibir, President of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), has advocated for the inclusion of more labor leaders in leadership positions across the country.

During a meeting with Comrade Onuh Edoka, Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State on Labor Matters, Dr. Minjibir encouraged health workers in Kogi State to support the Governor by delivering quality, effective, and efficient healthcare services.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Alhaji Isman Adodo for enhancing the welfare of workers in the state through the prompt payment of salaries and pensions. “Several Governors have appointed members of our Union to various positions, and we appreciate these Governors for their support,” Dr. Minjibir said. “I am confident that with their experience, these appointees will assist the Governors in fulfilling their duties effectively. I also thank Governor Ododo for his commitment to improving the welfare of workers in Kogi State.”

Dr. Minjibir urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other state Governors to integrate more labor leaders into their administrations. “Their extensive experience will be beneficial, particularly in developmental projects and maintaining industrial harmony,” he added.

Comrade Onuh Johnson Edoka, the former NLC chairman in Kogi State and current Special Assistant on Labor to the Governor, highlighted the industrial harmony currently enjoyed in Kogi State. He detailed the Governor’s interventions that have led to this peaceful environment.

“There is prompt payment of salaries, full payment of pensions, and a 35% hazard allowance for all categories of health workers,” Edoka stated. “The Governor has also paid for a six-month health insurance scheme for all state workers and approved CONMESS for veterinary doctors.”

Regarding the contentious issue of the N30,000 minimum wage, Edoka confirmed that it is being paid to workers, a victory attributed to the persistent efforts of labor unions in the state. He reiterated the Governor’s promise to safeguard the rights and interests of workers, ensuring they are adequately protected and promoted.
