Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6th Brigade, Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have apprehended an individual impersonating an Army recruitment official in Taraba State.
The impostor was arrested on Saturday after attempting to scam prospective military candidates.
This operation took place during a visit by Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6th Brigade, to the recruitment center at 114 Battalion Jimilari. General Uwa’s visit aimed to assess the ongoing recruitment process and ensure its transparency.
The suspect had promised guaranteed enrollment into the Nigerian Army in exchange for money from the prospective recruits. However, prompt action by the troops thwarted his plans.
Brigadier General Uwa assured that the recruitment process would be conducted fairly and transparently.
“We are committed to maintaining a level playing field for all candidates. Our recruitment will be based solely on merit, and we will not tolerate any fraudulent activities,” he stated.
He emphasized that the recruitment exercise is free and warned candidates against giving money to anyone promising to help them succeed in the screening process.
Regarding the arrest, Brigadier General Uwa commended the vigilance of the troops and confirmed that the suspect would be handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
