Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, will miss this year’s tournament after undergoing surgery on a spinal cyst.
Murray decided to withdraw following his victory over Alexei Popyrin at the Queen’s Club Championships. He was trailing 4-1 in the first set of his second-round match against Jordan Thompson when he made the decision.
The issue, aggravated by his participation in the French Open, has sidelined the former world number one from Wimbledon, where he has claimed two of his three Grand Slam titles.
Murray, who underwent hip resurfacing surgery in 2019, has struggled to reach the later stages of major tournaments. He also recently dealt with an ankle injury at the Miami Open.
Previously, Murray has indicated that he might not continue playing next season and has mentioned potential retirement at either the All England Club or the Paris Games.
