CAF President Patrice Motsepe has expressed his strong support for Morocco in hosting what he believes will be the best Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in history. The biennial tournament is scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Motsepe, quoted by CAFonline, stated, “I am confident that the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 will be extremely successful and will be the best AFCON in the history of this competition.”
Highlighting the growth of women’s football in Africa, Motsepe also anticipates great success for the CAF TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024. “I am also impressed by the enormous growth of Women’s Football in Africa and I am expecting the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2024 to be immensely successful,” he noted.
Addressing the delay in announcing the dates for AFCON 2025, Motsepe explained, “The announcement of the dates for the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 was delayed due to prolonged and intricate negotiations with different stakeholders, considering the packed international and domestic match calendars.”
Motsepe reaffirmed CAF’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of African players worldwide. “CAF is committed to protecting and advancing the interests of African players, playing in football clubs in Europe and worldwide,” he said.
He further emphasized CAF’s dedication to fostering strong relationships with global football entities. “CAF is also committed to building mutually beneficial relationships with the ECA, UEFA, other football confederations, and FIFA. We will continue to make significant progress in developing and ensuring that African football is globally competitive and amongst the best in the world.”
Motsepe extended his gratitude to King Mohamed VI of Morocco, the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), its President Fouzi Lekjaa, and the government and people of Morocco for hosting both the CAF TotalEnergies AFCON Morocco 2025 and the CAF TotalEnergies WAFCON Morocco 2024.
Motsepe concluded by expressing his appreciation for Morocco’s commitment to hosting these significant tournaments.
