Aminat Yusuf, a law student at Lagos State University (LASU), received congratulations from Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for breaking a record by earning a CGPA of 5.0.
With a cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0, Yusuf has been named the top graduating student in 40 years by LASU in advance of its 26th convocation ceremony.
On Friday, Sanwo-Olu used his official Twitter account to praise Yusuf and offer his congratulations.
The governor wrote on Twitter, “In Lagos, we value hard work, dedication, and excellence.”
“Congratulations to Aminat Yusuf, a law student at Lagos State University (LASU), who accomplished an amazing accomplishment by becoming the first undergraduate in 40 years to achieve a CGPA of 5.0.
“This is admirable! Your commitment and diligence have paid off.
“I’m particularly happy to learn about the 282 students who earned first-class honors in the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 sessions for their remarkable academic accomplishments.
As a state, Sanwo-Olu stated, “We will continue to recognize and encourage academic excellence.”
The institution announced that Ms. Yusuf from the Faculty of Law will receive a monetary prize of N500,000.
It was announced at a pre-convocation press conference by LASU Vice Chancellor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello that graduates from the 2020–2021 and 2021–2022 academic sessions would be recognized at the ceremony.
According to Mrs. Olatunji-Bello, the institution would graduate 10,183 students, 282 of whom would get First Class honors across a variety of fields.
