Kano Journalists Lift Ban on Government Coverage

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kano State has announced the immediate lifting of its ban on covering activities of the Kano State Government.

Chairman of the Chapter, Aminu Ahmed Garko, explained in a statement that the 14-day boycott was initially implemented to protest the government’s treatment of journalists and the profession.

Mr. Garko noted that the chapel recognized the unintended consequences of the boycott, which hindered their ability to inform the public and hold the government accountable.

The NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel will resume reporting on government activities, ensuring the public remains well-informed while continuing to scrutinize the government’s actions, Garko emphasized.

On June 10, 2024, following an emergency meeting, the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel had decided to boycott all activities related to the Kano State Government due to the mistreatment of its members.
