In a recent interview with Hip TV, renowned Nigerian musician Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’banj, has humorously referred to himself as “a new cat” or an up-and-coming artist in local terms.
Despite having spent 20 years in the music industry, the 43-year-old singer expressed that he feels like he is starting from scratch again, acknowledging the evolution of the music industry over the years.
D’banj revealed his plans to collaborate with a new generation of artists in his upcoming album, ‘Entertainer’, which he described as a follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2008 album, ‘The Entertainer’.
During the interview, D’banj also reflected on the role he played in the global acceptance of Nigerian music. He emphasized that while he may not have been the first Nigerian artist to collaborate internationally, his team’s approach and the grace of God enabled them to achieve significant success with hit songs like ‘Mr Endowed’.
He highlighted how their collaborations showcased the talent and potential of Nigerian artists on a global scale, inspiring aspiring artists that they too can achieve great heights in the music industry.
D’banj expressed pride in the impact he has had on the Nigerian music scene, stating that he now aims to work with local artists such as Ayra Starr, Rema, Ruger, and Don Jazzy. He emphasized his belief that collaboration among artists is the new form of competition in the music industry.
This shift towards working with and uplifting fellow artists reflects D’banj’s continued dedication to supporting and promoting the growth of the Nigerian music industry.
