The plea bargain application filed by the convicted kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike (also known as Evans), was delayed on Thursday due to the absence of legal advice.
Evans and his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka, submitted the application before a Lagos High Court, sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square. They are facing a five-count charge related to conspiracy, kidnapping, and attempted murder brought against them by the Lagos Government.
Evans is indicted along with Emeka, Victor Aduba, and Linus Opara. During the recent court session, the prosecution counsel, Mr. M. O. Olateju, informed the court that they were awaiting advice from the plea bargain committee. As a result, he requested a new date for the hearing once the advice was available. Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria reported that Evans and Emeka had chosen to pursue a plea bargain regarding the charges against them.
On the other hand, Mrs. A. C Enueshike, the counsel for the third defendant, expressed readiness to proceed with the trial. Following the submissions, Justice Sherifat Sonaike adjourned the case until October 17 for further proceedings.
It is important to note that Justice Akintoye was overseeing the trial at Igbosere High Court before it was affected by fire during the #EndSARS protests in October 2020.
