The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police CP Benneth Igweh, has successfully rescued victims abducted in the Dawaki area of Abuja on Sunday.
In a statement, FCT police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh detailed the swift and strategic response to a distress call about the attack by unknown gunmen on May 19, 2024, at approximately 11:30 PM. “Operatives of the FCT Police Command, led by CP Igweh, swiftly mobilized to the scene,” she said.
The statement highlighted the remarkable bravery and coordination of the police, who, in collaboration with local hunters, advanced on the assailants and tactically ambushed them at Ushafa Hill via Bwari and Shishipe Hills via Mpape. This resulted in a fierce gun battle, during which the assailants were overwhelmed by the operatives’ firepower and fled with various injuries. The kidnapped victims were successfully rescued.
While one of the rescued victims is currently receiving medical attention, CP Igweh reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. Search operations are ongoing to rescue other hostages who escaped during the shootout.
The police spokesperson assured that further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
Leadership recalls that the bandits reportedly kidnapped 12 individuals, including eight women and four men, from Frank Opara Street in Dawaki, Abuja.
