Lagos, Nigeria — In a landmark move to redefine its corporate identity and market positioning, 9mobile has officially rebranded to “T2,” signalling the start of a new era for the telecommunications giant.
The announcement was made on Friday during a high-profile relaunch event in Lagos, attended by Obafemi Banigbe, Chief Executive Officer of T2; Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; industry leaders; and other key stakeholders.
Banigbe described the rebrand as more than a cosmetic change, calling it “a total evolution of who we are, why we exist, and how we deliver value.” He said T2 represents the company’s renewed commitment to innovation, resilience, and exceptional customer experience, with the ultimate goal of becoming a leader in Nigeria’s rapidly evolving digital economy.
The rebrand is a major milestone in T2’s four-phase recovery roadmap — Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth — launched after the 2023 acquisition of 9mobile by Lighthouse Telecoms, led by Mr. Thomas Etuh. Since the takeover, the company has reconstituted its board, refreshed executive leadership, and signed a pioneering nationwide infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN Nigeria, significantly boosting network coverage and capacity.
Speaking at the event, Etuh said the rebrand marks “a fresh start, rebirth, and a new order” for the company. He thanked customers, regulators, and partners for their loyalty during challenging times, promising that “together, we are reclaiming all lost grounds.”
Minister Tijani commended T2 for its bold step, urging that the transformation should go beyond a name change to deliver meaningful innovation and service excellence. “Our government will continue to support players like T2 who invest, adapt, and embrace change before it’s forced upon them,” he affirmed.
Also in attendance, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the Lagos State Government representing Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, noted that T2’s focus on digital innovation aligns perfectly with Lagos State’s vision for an inclusive and technology-driven economy.
The rebrand will be rolled out in phases to ensure smooth service continuity for customers while gradually introducing the market to the T2 identity.
