A special squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was engaged in a confrontation with bandits in Kaduna State, resulting in the neutralization of 59 assailants.
The incident occurred after the squad had patrolled the national grid installation in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The convoy of the squad, which included nine officers and 71 other personnel from various NSCDC units, was ambushed at Farin- Kasa Area of Chukun LGA in Kaduna State.
According to Corps Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, seven NSCDC personnel are currently missing. The team had encountered stranded expatriates returning from a mining site and had offered to protect them through the area in Kaduna State. Unbeknownst to them, over 200 armed Boko Haram elements were lying in wait on a hill at Farin-Kasa and initiated an attack on the NSCDC convoy with sophisticated weapons.
Despite the overwhelming odds, the NSCDC operatives were able to repel the attack and neutralize over 50 of the terrorists in the crossfire. Efforts are underway to locate the missing NSCDC personnel, while those who sustained injuries are receiving medical treatment.
The NSCDC remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure, undeterred by such attacks. The Commandant General has condemned the incident as callous and unfortunate, affirming that security operatives will continue to defend the country against such acts of aggression.
The NSCDC’s efforts align with the government’s agenda to revitalize the power sector and ensure stable electricity supply nationwide.
