60 Lawyers File contempt charge against DSS over Emefiele

Not fewer than 60 Constitutional and Human Right lawyers, have stormed the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, to commence committal proceedings against the Director General of the State Security Service, DSS, Mr Yusuf Bichi, for what they described as violation of orders of court directing the release of suspended Governor of the Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele from custody of the agency.

With the consortium of lawyers led by Mr. Maxwell Opara and Mr. Ahmed Tijani, who prayed the court to commit the DG of the DSS to prison until he purges himself of the contempt.

In their Motion filed before the Court, It was their deposition that despite the orders of Justice Muazu Hassan, the State Security Service still went ahead to arrest and detain Mr. Emefiele for over a month while shopping for evidence which does not exist.

While addressing journalists after filing their processes, Mr. Maxwell Opara said the group will pursue the matter to its conclusion.

Mr. Opara also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately relieve Mr. Yusuf Bichi of his appointment as DG DSS for having obviously misled the President that Mr. Emefiele had committed heinous crimes against the State only for him to now file a charge of possession of a validly registered pump action rifle against Mr. Emefiele.
