60 Kano schools showcase talent in AGILE Week 2025

Kano state, Nigeria:More than 60 secondary schools across Kano State participated in a week-long series of academic, entrepreneurial, and sporting competitions as part of activities marking AGILE Week 2025, organized under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project.

The event, held to spotlight the talents and intellectual strengths of adolescent girls, featured competitions in content creation, creative writing, climate advocacy, digital literacy, and team sports.

Speaking at the event, Kano State AGILE Coordinator, Malam Mujjitapha Aminu, described AGILE Week as a key initiative aimed at empowering girls through education and self-expression. He noted that the inclusion of sports was designed to foster confidence, teamwork, and healthy rivalry among students.

“AGILE Week began in seven states but has now expanded to nearly two dozen across the country,” he said, adding that the state-level winners would represent Kano at national competitions.

Among the winning schools were Government Science Technical College (GSTC) Dala for Content Creation, GSTC Jaoji for Short Story, First Lady College for Poetry, and Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) Chiranci for Essay Writing. Maria Tijjani Girls College clinched the top spot in the Climate Change category.

In sporting events, Army Day Secondary School won the Girls’ Volleyball category, Ahmadiyya College triumphed in Boys’ Volleyball, while Government Girls College Dala took the Girls’ Basketball title. Government Technical College Kano also emerged winner in the Digital Literacy competition.

Several winning students, including Husna Adam, Maryam Sani, Mariya Bashir, and Umar Garba, expressed appreciation to AGILE for the platform to showcase their abilities. They pledged to intensify efforts in preparation for the upcoming national stage.

The event drew a significant turnout, with participants and guests including members of the Kano Emirate Council, School-Based Management Committees (SBMC), K-SAFE representatives, educators, students, and senior government officials.
