Approximately 5,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating around Masallacin Idi in Kano metropolis are at risk of losing their businesses following a quit notice issued by the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA).
The traders, who have been in the area for over 18 years, were given a 48-hour ultimatum to vacate the premises or face legal action. According to a KNUPDA source, the traders lacked the necessary government approval to conduct their business at the current location.
The affected traders, emphasizing their significant contributions to the state’s economy, have appealed to Governor Abba Yusuf to intervene. They warned that displacing thousands of youths could have a detrimental impact on the local economy.
In response, Sa’adu Hamisu Dogonnama, Managing Director of Kantin Kwari Market, assured the traders that efforts would be made to ensure a fair resolution to their plight.
