A total of 403 Nigerians, including children, have been successfully repatriated from the Niger Republic through a coordinated humanitarian effort.
Speaking at the reception held at the Nigerian Immigration Service Training School in Kano, the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. Aliyu Tijani, revealed that the returnees consisted of 52 households, comprising 165 males, 56 females, and 182 children and infants.
Represented by the commission’s state coordinator, Mrs. Lubah Liman, Tijani stated that the second batch of 392 individuals voluntarily returned on Saturday, following the earlier arrival of 11 returnees on December 17, 2024.
The operation, facilitated through a multi-agency collaboration involving the Nigerian Mission in Niamey and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), underscores the federal government’s commitment to ensuring the safe and dignified return of stranded citizens.
Hon. Tijani reiterated the government’s dedication to reintegrating the returnees into various initiatives under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He added that the returnees were profiled by officers from NCFRMI and the Nigerian Immigration Service, with support from NAPTIP, DSS, NEMA, and the Kano State Emergency Management Agency.
Commending the collaborative efforts of the participating agencies, Tijani highlighted their role in the success of the operation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to assisting Nigerians in distress abroad.
