40 women, children rescued from Boko Haram captivity

Niger State – Security forces in Niger State have rescued 40 women and children who were held captive by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in Munya Local Government Area.

This was revealed in a post on Tuesday by well-known security analyst, Zagazola Makama, on his verified X handle.

According to the post, the rescue was part of a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation carried out by a joint team of security operatives.

The victims were kidnapped during several attacks in April 2024 on communities including Madaka, Allawa, and Sarkin-Pawa.

“During the attacks, a number of women were forcibly taken by insurgents and married off to members of the sect. Some of them gave birth while in captivity,” the post quoted intelligence sources as saying.

“The rescued victims include 13 women and 27 children.

“The full names of the rescued individuals were released by the authorities, showing a mix of adult women, female children, and male children,” Makama wrote.

The victims were safely brought to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are receiving medical care, counseling, and other support services.

Security sources also confirmed that operations are still ongoing to free more captives and destroy remaining insurgent camps in the area.

“All the rescued persons are being given proper medical attention and will be reunited with their families after undergoing evaluation,” Makama wrote.
