Deadly Ukrainian Drone Strikes Hit Multiple Regions in Russia

Moscow, Russia — Tensions escalated as Ukrainian drone strikes killed three individuals and injured two others in separate attacks across western Russia overnight.

The incidents were confirmed on Saturday by regional authorities through official Telegram channels. In Penza region, Governor Oleg Melnichenko reported that a woman lost her life and two others were wounded following a drone strike on an industrial enterprise.

In the Samara region, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev disclosed that an elderly man died after debris from a drone caused a house fire. Similarly, in Rostov, Acting Governor Yuri Sliusar stated that a security guard perished in a blaze triggered by a drone attack at an industrial site.

Sliusar further revealed that Russia’s military had intercepted a large-scale drone offensive during the night, destroying drones across seven districts. The Russian Ministry of Defence reported that a total of 112 Ukrainian drones were neutralized, with 34 destroyed over the Rostov region within a span of nine hours.

On the other side, Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region faced Russian drone attacks overnight, leaving three people injured, according to Governor Sergiy Lysak. Several homes, buildings, and vehicles were reportedly damaged.

Amid ongoing hostilities, Russian forces claimed progress in Dnipropetrovsk, capturing two villages in July as part of a broader territorial push, according to AFP’s analysis citing the Institute for the Study of War. However, Kyiv firmly denies any Russian presence in the region.

President Vladimir Putin reiterated on Friday that Russia seeks peace but maintained his unwavering demands—chief among them, that Ukraine relinquish territories and abandon its bid to join NATO.

Responding, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asserted that only Putin has the power to halt the war and reiterated his willingness to meet. “The United States has proposed this. Ukraine has supported it. What is needed is Russia’s readiness,” Zelensky stated on X.
