Lagos, Nigeria — The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation about former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential bid for the 2027 presidency, asserting that he cannot unseat President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on Friday, APC spokesman Mr. Seye Oladejo acknowledged Jonathan’s role in Nigeria’s peaceful democratic transition in 2015 but said the country has moved beyond nostalgia-driven politics.
Oladejo emphasized the need for bold and forward-thinking leadership to tackle contemporary challenges, noting that “good luck alone is not a governance strategy.”
He criticized Jonathan’s previous administration (2010-2015) for leaving Nigeria with unresolved corruption, insecurity, and economic issues.
The APC also highlighted legal and political complications linked to Jonathan’s candidacy, given he has already served one term, warning it could cause instability at a time when Nigeria needs decisive governance.
Oladejo questioned Jonathan’s recent cross-party engagements and absence from PDP’s rebuilding efforts, casting doubt on his political loyalty and intentions.
The party reiterated its commitment to progressive governance and urged Nigerians to reject emotional attachments, focusing instead on capable and transformative leadership.
