19-Year-Old Trader Sentenced for Robbing Elderly Woman in Jos

In a recent case at a Jos Magistrates’ Court, a 19-year-old trader has been sentenced to nine months imprisonment for robbing an elderly woman in her home.

The suspect pleaded guilty to the charge, leading to a summary trial and conviction by Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos.

During the sentencing, Magistrate Bokkos ruled that the convicted trader must pay an option of a N20,000 fine or spend six months in prison.

Additionally, he ordered the convict to pay the elderly woman N30,000 in damages, or face an additional three months behind bars if he fails to comply with the order.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gokwat, the incident was reported to the police by the complainant, Umar Adamu, on August 23 at the Laranto Police station.

The complaint stated that the convict and his accomplices had entered the complainant’s mother’s house, stole her phone and a bag containing the Holy Quran, and threatened her with a knife to prevent her from raising an alarm.

The convict was subsequently apprehended by the police during their investigation, leading to the legal proceedings and eventual sentencing.

The offense committed by the trader is a violation of the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
