The Adamawa State Police Command has detained Aliyu Yaro, a 19-year-old resident of Kwacham Ward, Mubi North, on charges of murdering his three-day-old son.
According to police sources, Yaro was accused by his girlfriend, Safiya, of taking the life of their newborn just days after his birth. During police questioning, Yaro reportedly confessed to the crime and led officers to the location where he had buried the baby’s body, which was later exhumed.
In his statement, Yaro revealed he had impregnated Safiya, who repeatedly urged him to come and see the baby after she gave birth. On the night of the incident, Yaro visited Safiya’s house, reportedly asking her to fetch water, leaving him alone with the infant. He then allegedly left with the baby, later burying the body around 9 p.m. in the Girpata area of Mubi.
Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankombo, expressed deep concern over the incident and has directed that the case be handed over to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for thorough investigation and prosecution.
