A tragic incident occurred at a construction site in Lagos State, where a 17-year-old boy was electrocuted while assisting his stepfather with scaffolding work.
The Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to reporters on Saturday. According to Hundeyin, the boy and his stepfather had been contracted to work at the site when the unfortunate event took place.
The boy’s mother, whose identity was not disclosed, reported the incident to the Agbado Police Division on August 2 at 1 p.m. She explained that she received a distressing phone call from her younger brother around 12:30 p.m., informing her of the tragedy.
Her son had accompanied his stepfather, a welder, to the construction site on Church Street, Alagbado, where they were tasked with building scaffolding. During the work, the boy accidentally stepped on a live wire that had been carelessly connected to an electric pole, resulting in his immediate death.
“He was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor,” SP Hundeyin stated. “A team of detectives from the division visited the scene, and the boy’s body has since been removed.”
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols at construction sites and the dangers posed by exposed electrical connections.
