Amid ongoing legal disputes over the Kano Emirship, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been awarded a PhD following a successful remote thesis defense.
The viva voce, or oral examination, is a critical component of the PhD process, where candidates present and defend their research in front of a panel of experts.
The news was announced by Ms. Kadaria Ahmed, founder and CEO of RadioNow 95.3FM Lagos, via a Facebook post on Wednesday. She revealed that Sanusi II’s thesis was approved by the examiners without any required amendments or corrections.
In her post, Kadaria Ahmed wrote, “I am pleased to report that our Khalifa, our King, HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II, has now earned his Doctorate after successfully completing his viva voce. The PhD was approved as submitted, with no amendments needed. Congratulations, Dr. Sanusi!”
She expressed her joy at joining the examiners in congratulating the Emir, adding, “Alhamdulillah.”
