The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ilorin Zonal Command, has apprehended eleven individuals for engaging in illegal mining activities in Kwara State.
Along with the arrests, the Command seized eight truckloads of various minerals.
The suspects captured are Ibrahim Gambo, Hakeem Saka, Ahmad Muktar, Sulaiman Ibrahim, Ibrahim Muhammad, Jamiu Mustapha, Rabiu Musa, Aisha Muham, Abdulwasiu Hannafi, Qudus Olalere, and Babatunde Hakeem.
The arrests took place on Wednesday, May 5, 2024, following credible intelligence gathered at various locations in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. The suspects were transporting different solid minerals, including marble stone, white powder, lithium, and lepidolite, to undisclosed destinations without the necessary lawful authorization.
According to Dele Oyewale, the Head of Media and Publicity for the EFCC, the suspects will undergo further investigations and will be presented in court once the ongoing inquiries are concluded.
The EFCC’s actions aim to combat illegal mining activities and ensure that those involved in such unlawful practices are held accountable for their actions.
