In a significant advancement for fertility treatment in Nigeria, a private hospital in Abuja has successfully delivered its first set of triplets through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). This milestone comes as part of ongoing efforts to support women facing fertility challenges.
Dr. Christopher Otabor, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, recounted the couple’s decade-long struggle with infertility. To celebrate the arrival of the triplets, the hospital announced a scholarship program for the children, covering their education from primary to tertiary levels.
Dr. Otabor also highlighted the hospital’s recent achievements in various medical fields. “We are currently performing a total hip replacement surgery. Yesterday, we completed an eight-hour spine surgery, and two weeks ago, we successfully removed an esophagus tumor in a 12-hour procedure. The patient is now recovering well, and we also performed a knee replacement,” he said.
Dr. Mike Enokela, an obstetrician-gynecologist and head of the IVF center, expressed concern about the rising infertility rates. He emphasized the center’s capability to address complex diagnostic issues, including Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) for couples looking to avoid sickle cell anemia in their offspring.
Mr. Greg Osakwe, the father of the triplets, expressed immense gratitude, thanking God for answering his prayers after a decade of waiting.
